The establishment of the Centre for Criminology in 1999 is an indication of the University's commitment to the promotion of research excellence and knowledge exchange in policies, practices or service provisions in areas of crime and justice. The Centre provides a home for innovative and impactful studies of crime and criminal justice in Hong Kong and beyond. It also provides a platform for academics, practitioners and other user stakeholders and community groups to share their knowledge and expertise and to assist in the development of effective strategies to deal with the increasingly sophisticated problem of crime locally and globally.

Our mission is to promote the development of criminological research, education and criminal justice policy, to contribute to the understanding of policy issues and reframing debates, and to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement, crime prevention and the treatment of offenders. The Centre’s long term goal is to provide a platform for the study of crime and justice in the region so as to assist practitioners and to link regional issues to the international community.
