The Centre on Behavioral Health is dedicated to improve individual and community well-being by integrating Eastern and Western health philosophies, principles and practices through research, education, and clinical service. In line with its holistic orientation, the Centre adopts a body-mind-spirit healthcare model which is innovative, strength-focused, person-centered, and integrative in nature. The Centre composes of a multi-disciplinary team of social workers, psychologists, creative arts and expressive arts therapists, as well as research staff specializing in quantitative and qualitative methods of inquiry.
For providing a more structured and comprehensive professional trainings, the Centre helps develop postgraduate level educational programs through the Department of Social Work and Social Administration (MSocSc in Behavioral Health since September 2004 and Master of Expressive Arts Therapy since September 2013). The Centre's educational programmes are positioned to offer training to health and social services professionals locally and internationally to develop their own integrative practices.
The Centre also serves as an active hub of clinical research in holistic wellness approaches (e.g. mindfulness, expressive arts therapy, and the holistic healthcare model) in health enhancement. Our research work emphasizes the synergy of knowledge, wisdom, and practices in behavioural sciences, social work, creative and expressive arts therapies, clinical psychology, psycho-oncology, psychoneuroimmunology, chronic illness rehabilitation, gerontology, as well as thanatology. The Centre has been awarded research and impact project funding from local and overseas funding sources, as well as government funding for the furtherance of holistic healthcare practices in Hong Kong. In the pursuit of research excellence, the interdisciplinary and innovative research efforts of the Centre are published in high impact academic journals, professional textbooks, encyclopaedia, and have received awards in local and overseas professional associations and conferences in behavioral medicine, cancer care, creative and expressive arts therapies.
