THE INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT STUDIES

The Institute of Transport Studies, established in 2000, is a university centre that seeks to identify research programmes as mission-oriented activities and not by traditional academic disciplines alone. It aims to establish a database of all academic staff and research students in the University engaged in transport related research, their areas of special expertise, and the titles of projects in which they are engaged, to promote via its collaborative activities within the University on multi- and inter-disciplinary transport research and the application of research grants, to promote inter-institutional, regional, and international cooperation in transport studies, to publicize locally and internationally the image of the University as an institution committed to transport studies in Hong Kong, the region, and worldwide, and to organize seminars, conferences, and workshops on transport studies.

As an exemplary interdisciplinary research group, the Institute has 25 Full Fellows, all being academic staff at the Professional level, from the Faculty of Architecture, HKU Business School, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine.

Apart from hosting the Distinguished Transport Lecture Series, international workshops, industrial seminars, and other seminars, the Institute has also co-organized high-level International Conferences, such as the International Conference on Smart Mobility and Logistics in Future Cities (2018) and the 9th International Symposium on Transport Network Resilience (2023).
