SAU PO CENTRE ON AGEING

The Sau Po Centre on Ageing is a leading research centre in gerontology in the greater China and in the Asian Pacific region. The Centre was officially launched in April 1999 under the auspices of the Faculty of Social Sciences of The University of Hong Kong. The Centre aims to contribute to meaningful ageing around the world through rigorous interdisciplinary research that empowers social capital and facilitates social change. Abiding by the core values of social capital, people-centric, creativity, originality and academic excellence, the Centre optimizes the quality of care and quality of life for ageing populations through cutting-edge research on social gerontology; capacity development of professionals, policy makers and the public; and partnerships with research and community agencies that seek to influence social change, all of which are pursued through international, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to maximize impact.

The Centre is formed by a multidisciplinary team of researchers and professionals to conduct studies in the areas of active and healthy ageing, ageing in place, age-friendly cities, dementia care, end-of life care, family caregiving, gerontechnology, health literacy, meaningful ageing, long-term care policy, and social determinants of well-being. With the collaborative efforts over the decades, the Centre has been awarded research and impact project funding from peer-reviewed research grant schemes, HKSAR Government contracts for professional consultancies, and other local and overseas funding support in advancing the well-being of ageing population.
