In addition to the need-based funding resources, the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) also administers a wide portfolio of educational and merit-based funds to support students to experience learning inside and outside classroom. The First-in-the-Family Education Fund (FIFE Fund) supports full-degree full-time local undergraduate students who are first generation university students admitted to HKU after 2008 to take part in different learning activities outside the classroom. Grants to Student Societies is available to student societies registered with the University. Awards are made as token subsidies to encourage societies to organise activities of various kinds, including exhibitions, workshops, competitions, performance and community services.
