You are advised to open a bank account in Hong Kong. You will need to transfer money for use on arrival. This can be done, either

• (a) by instructing an overseas bank to send money under your name to a bank in Hong Kong; or
• (b) by depositing traveller’s cheques or bank drafts in a local account (personal cheques can also be deposited but may take as long as three weeks to be cleared).

Student under 18 must be accompanied in person by their parent(s) or legal guardian to open a bank account at one of our local banks. The University is not able to act as your guardian in this context.
