The School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) is the University’s Extension Arm. Its role is to provide lifelong learning opportunities to the wider Hong Kong community for personal and career advancement through programmes of professional and continuing education. With some 900 full-time staff and around 2,000 part-time teaching staff, HKU SPACE is the leading local provider in the field of lifelong education. The School also offers full time Associate Degree and Higher Diploma programmes in the Community College, as well as full time postgraduate and undergraduate programmes under the International College.
The School conducts taught postgraduate programmes in a wide variety of subjects organized by the College of Business and Finance, College of Humanities and Law, the College Life Science, the International College, and the Institute for China Business. Some of these programmes are collaborative efforts with departments, centres or schools within the University, while others are joint ventures with overseas universities. In the academic year 2015-2016, there were 7,078 postgraduate student enrolments at Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s Degree levels, equivalent to some 1,161 FTEs.
Whilst the School’s headquarters are at the T.T.Tsui Building on the University Main Campus, HKU SPACE has a long history of operating teaching and learning facilities at convenient downtown locations to better serve the community on a territory wide basis. Its flagship premises are in the Admiralty area, comprising the 2/F and 3/F, Admiralty Centre, and 6/F, United Centre. The Island East Campus and the Fortress Tower Learning Centre are in North Point, and the Kowloon West Campus is in Mei Foo. The Community College operates its main campus in Kowloon Bay, and the HPSHCC has its campus in Causeway Bay. The Island South Campus in Pokfulam houses the Centennial College, to which HKU SPACE provides management services. Additionally, the University Main Campus in Pokfulam is available for evening classes.
In Mainland China, HKU SPACE through its Institute for China Business offers postgraduate diploma and executive programmes in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzen, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
