The Academic Advising and Scholarships Office (AASO) offers advising services and academic planning resources to support undergraduate students in their pursuit of academic success. It also serves as a one-stop platform to help administer merit-based scholarships and promote scholarship opportunities to students. Responsible for the implementation of the University academic advising network, AASO endeavours to support students, especially first-year students, in making a smooth transition to the University. It helps them set achievable study goals and develop meaningful study plans through a wide range of services and activities. Apart from academic advising, AASO is the central administering office assisting the Board of Academic Awards in overseeing the establishment, promotion and awarding of scholarships and prizes administered by the University. Faculties also play a key role in administering their respective scholarships and prizes. One-on-one Advising with AASO Advisers AASO provides personalised academic advice that complements the guidance offered by teaching staff in Faculties. All undergraduate students are welcome to meet with AASO advisers to discuss study matters such as University regulations, academic planning and progress, major/minor selection, and planning for exchange, internships or postgraduate studies. Appointments for face-to-face or Zoom consultations can be made via https://booking.aas.hku.hk/. Students may also submit their enquiries through AASO’s “WhatsApp an Adviser” service or by email. A Hub of Study Resources and Academic Planning Tools AASO’s website serves as a hub for students seeking information and resources to support their studies. It provides comprehensive information on areas including curriculum structures, University regulations, major/minor options across Faculties, important semester dates, course enrolment procedures and more. Online resources, such as the Academic Roadmap, e-Planner, GPA calculator, discussion forum@Moodle, study tips and sharing by senior-year students on various academic topics, are available to help students map out their learning journeys and monitor their learning progress.
AASO organises a variety of activities and workshops throughout the academic year to meet the needs of students at different stages of their studies. These include workshops for new students on adapting to university studies, major/minor selection series, sharing sessions with senior-year students and workshops on planning for exchange and postgraduate studies. Scholarships AASO provides information on available scholarship opportunities, eligibility criteria and application procedures. It works closely with the Development and Alumni Affairs Office, donors/funders, Faculty scholarship coordinators in this regard. Regular information sessions are offered to introduce scholarship opportunities, with current and past scholars sharing their tips and experiences.
