You will need to open a bank account in Hong Kong. You will need to transfer money for immediate use when you arrive here. This can be done:
(a)

by instructing an overseas bank to send money under your name to a bank in Hong Kong; or

by depositing travellers cheques or bank drafts in a local account (personal cheques can also be deposited but may take as long as three weeks to be cleared). |
Student under 18 must be accompanied in person by their parent(s) or legal guardian to open a bank account at one of our local banks. The University is not able to act as your guardian in this context. Please visit the Non-local Students website cedars.hku.hk/wow for more information.
